Fertilizer Fall: Buy CF Industries and Ignore China's Warning (At Least for Now)

Wow, investors are very short-term focused. And in this case, it looks like analysts are, too.

On Friday, February 18th, China announced that ?soybean imports will likely drop by 64% in February.? But some agriculture pros went further to say they ?expect imports to decline through 2011.?

How could imports decline throughout 2011? Is China going to stop feeding its people? What about their chickens? ?Chickens eat a whole lot of soybeans.? And the Chinese love to eat chicken. Kentucky Fried Chicken, a division of Yum Brands (YUM), has become enormously popular in China. And you heard of chicken feet, right?

Last year, China imported 4.8 million tons of soybeans in December, 4.1 million in January, 3 million tons in February, and 4 million tons in March. Taking that into account, February 2010 imports dropped by 27%. Okay, it?s not as big of a drop, but imports came back strong
