SOCOM 4 Review

I've always respected the SOCOM franchise, although I've never played any of the previous entries of the series. My understanding is that it lives in this hardcore tactical shooter world; one that is revered and respected by its legion of fans and the competition. Perhaps that's why SOCOM 4 is a departure from the hardcore and has started to design itself as a more accessible online shooter with this latest entry.

Multiplayer isn't the only component that is packaged into SOCOM 4. There is a generic campaign mode wrapped around the game that is designed to teach you how to play rather than providing you a lasting single-player experience (surprisingly, no co-op story mode). Throughout the campaign, you're shown how to do things such as give orders, and mark targets; as well as playing a few rudimentary stealth missions (stealth tactics that never appear in the actual multiplayer portions of the game).
